Student Service Committees
The Diversity Graduate School Application Advisory consists of graduate students in the Department of Psychology who provide one-on-one mentorship to underrepresented students applying to graduate school. We provide GRE study preparation materials, edit application materials, and provide guidance about the application process.
The Outreach Committee was started by Robert Vlisides-Henry in collaboration with Jeanine Stefanucci and Grace Nicora. Our group has expanded to include numerous other graduate students in our department, and we have engaged in multiple trips to southern Utah to discuss our research and graduate school more broadly with rural high school students. We plan to continue these outreach activities in the fall by reaching out to other rural communities in our state.
STEM education. Through both the Outreach and Diversity Committees, we organized a girls in STEM event. We partnered with the Women's Resource Center at the University of Utah to host 60 girls from Jackson Elementary school. The girls learned a bit about psychology and what it was, and then went on a tour of several labs on campus. They got to interact with cutting edge research tools such as driving simulators and virtual reality, and met many other female-identifying scientists. This event was successful because of the many labs and graduate/undergraduate students who volunteered and allowed 60 5th graders in their space for a day- there are too many to name! Thanks to all who helped out.
