Awarded from the National Research Foundation of Korea
Project entitled, "A psycho-oncological study to improve the quality of life of cancer patients and their family caregivers".
This grant from the National Research Foundation is about USD80,000 over three years to investigate the well-being of cancer patients and family caregivers. Such major cancers in Korea as gastric, colorectal, breast, liver, and lung cancers will be included for a repeated measurement of their stress, quality of life, subjective well-being, Hwabyung (the Korean-cultural clinical presentation of a combination of anger, frustration, depression, anxiety, and somatization), family relationship, and social exclusion. Conducting this type of research with only undergraduate RA's would have been unimaginable three years ago, but now I am doing it thanks to our well-trained undergrads at UAC. If any graduate students from the main campus want to spend a couple of months or so in Korea, doing research on this topic, that can be another good way of making the best use of the resources the department has!
