Lois Haggard, Ph.D., Social Psychology, 1989
Lois manages the Community Health Assessment Program within the New Mexico Department of Health. She works to strengthen health assessment capacity in New Mexico by making meaningful population health data and information widely available.
She has developed an information system that provides public access to health information.
It is called the Indicator-Based Information System for Public Health (IBIS-PH).
"IBIS is as much about the presentation, central storage and standardization of the
data as much as it is about the datasets," according to Lois. "It's not a database
or a data warehouse. It uses a variety of our standard DOH SAS datasets on the back
end. It's about putting the data into the hands of the public for civic dialogue,
and doing it efficiently so state and tribal health departments can afford to do it."
